Questions?
What is included in this project?
Two new fully serviced baseball diamonds will be built behind the New Dundee Community Centre on land purchased for this purpose by Wilmot Township 24 years ago. These will replace the diamonds in the existing park, which for many years have been plagued with safety concerns.
Major upgrades will be made to the existing park, including:- a new toddler/children’s playground, closer to the Band Shell; a multi-use sports court for basketball and hockey; resurfaced tennis courts; a small parking area near the Heritage Gates; a paved walking path, landscaping, additional trees and benches.
When will construction begin?
Construction of the ball diamonds will begin spring, 2010 and continue through the summer. Baseball will start on the new diamonds after allowing a full season for the turf to establish itself. Construction at the Community Park will begin in the fall following, after ball season has ended.
What will it cost? Where will we get the money?
The entire project will cost $648 000. The Township of Wilmot will contribute $100 000.
Following discussions with New Dundee Minor Ball Association, and with the encouragement of Wilmot Councillor, Elliot Fung, the Township of Wilmot applied for and received a Federal/Provincial Recreation Infrastructure Program grant. The Federal and Provincial governments will contribute $216 000 each. Our thanks, also, to MP Harold Albrecht and MPP Leeanna Pendergast for their help in obtaining this funding.
Before the application was submitted, New Dundee Minor Ball Association committed to leading a fundraising campaign to raise the remaining $116 000.
How will we raise our community’s share of $116 000?
Your support will help to make this dream come true! A door-to-door canvass began in October 2009 and continues. A business canvass will begin in 2010. The committee hopes to only canvass once. There will also be community events sponsored by various local organizations with the proceeds going to the project.
